Here are the top tourist destinations in Slovenia, Europe

Surrounded by the north of Italy, famous Austria and the unbelievable beaches of Croatia, it is possible that you will let little Slovenia go unnoticed. That would certainly be a mistake. Amazing villages, spectacular lakes, cities, emerald waters of rivers and cities steeped in history are just some of the attractions in the country. With that in mind, we have listed Top Destinations in Slovenia that will surely convince you to visit Slovenia.

Ljubljana

Slovenia’s capital and largest city, Ljubljana, which was once voted Europe’s Green Capital, could not be missing from the list. Its main sights include the omissible Ljubljana Castle and the fascinating Prešeren Square, the city’s most famous square. The best part is that it is one of the best cities in the world for cyclists, so you can do it all by bike.

Bled

Located in the Julian Alps, in the Upper Carniola region, Bled is famous for its lake of the same name, certainly one of the most famous tourist spots in Slovenia. What is most impressive is certainly the small and friendly island that sits right in its center, where the tower of a 17th century church rises fascinatingly. You can still find fantastic structures from the 11th and 9th centuries there.

Piran

At the southwestern tip of Slovenia, bordering the Adriatic Sea is the scenic town of Piran. Do not be surprised if you find any resemblance to Venice – the city has been under the rule of the Venetian Republic for hundreds of years. Today, despite being small, it still holds much of the history and culture of the people who passed through there.

Skocjan Caves

The Skocjan caves are a fascinating system of caves in the southwestern region inscribed on the list of world heritage sites of UNESCO. There are more than 6 km of underground passages, rapids and waterfalls, in addition to the famous Martel Chamber, one of the largest underground chambers on the planet, with an impressive 308 by 89 meters wide and up to 106 meters high.

Predjama Castle

Perched in the middle of a cave in a cliff, Predjama Castle is, to say the least, fascinating. First built in the 13th century, enemies found it difficult to conquer because it was inside a cave. Over its ruins, another castle was built in the 16th century, but it fell in an earthquake. Finally, towards the end of the century, it was built as it is today, in a Renaissance style.

Maribor

Slovenia’s second largest city, second only to the capital, is also a very popular destination, especially as it is right on the Austrian border, on the banks of the Drava River. There you can find the oldest vine in the world, over 400 years old. Maribor is also worth it for its medieval center and its horizon marked by orange roofs.

Soca River

A river with waters so clear and emerald in hues that it seems like a lie, the Soca runs for more than 130 km between Slovenia and Italy. Despite the incredible landscapes and its unbelievable beauty, the river attracts people in search of adventure, who travel there to go rafting, canoeing or kayaking.
